Hai Kun Class Submarine
Hai Kun Class Submarine Scale Model
The Hai Kun Class submarine, also known as Taiwan’s Indigenous Defence Submarine, represents a major milestone in the Republic of China Navy’s modernisation programme. Developed and built in Taiwan by CSBC Corporation, the class was designed to strengthen Taiwan’s undersea defence capability and provide a modern diesel-electric attack submarine suited to patrol, deterrence and coastal defence operations.
The first vessel, ROCS Hai Kun SS-711, takes its name from a mythical sea creature often translated as “Narwhal”. As Taiwan’s first domestically built submarine, Hai Kun is a highly significant design within modern naval history, marking the beginning of a new indigenous submarine programme intended to support Taiwan’s future undersea fleet.
This Hai Kun Class submarine scale model is available in 1:100, 1:200, 1:350 and 1:700, offering a range of display options suitable for serious collectors, naval historians and modern submarine enthusiasts.

Historical Significance
The Hai Kun Class represents a defining moment in Taiwan’s naval development. As the first submarine designed and built under Taiwan’s Indigenous Defence Submarine programme, it reflects the country’s effort to establish a modern undersea capability despite the technical and strategic challenges associated with submarine construction. The wider programme is planned around a future fleet of up to eight boats.
For collectors building a modern submarine, Indo-Pacific naval or contemporary defence display, the Hai Kun Class offers both geopolitical significance and a distinctive modern silhouette within a 21st-century fleet collection.
